US Celtic Singer and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama Alumnus Release International Charity Single
US Celtic singer Kristyn Murphy and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama alumnus and composer Marianna Filippi have recently released an international collaboration charity single to support the Ranger Riding Ranch, a project of the registered charity Education 4 Everyone. Featured on the original track is US Celtic singer Kristyn Murphy, of Maine, who starred in the successful 2017 UK tour of Celtic Journey alongside Welsh music sensation The Meadows. The single titled “Hero in You”, also features Canadian classical crossover quartet Vivace, and newcomer Lydia Bradfield also from Maine.
“Hero in You,” co-written by Filippi and Murphy.
“The song is an anthem,” explains Murphy, who penned the lyrics, “it is meant both as encouragement and a call to action. “Everybody has something to offer this world, everybody is a piece of the greater universe. I think it is important to help each other and lift each other up and encourage each other to find that inner strength and inner hero, especially after the difficult year we are currently experiencing.”
Murphy became connected with the Ranger Riding Ranch charity three years ago while touring with the Celtic Journey show. The charity has a mission to teach lifelong transferable skills to people with special needs and disabilities through contact with horses. Murphy has a long history of support non-profits through music projects and has been collaborating with Filippi on music projects since 2016.
Chairman and co-founder of Education 4 Everyone, Dean Brockway said: “Horses and other animals are not only our best friends, they are our teachers and they help us to open up and embrace ourselves. They make such a positive impact on the physical, mental and emotional well-being of people of all ages. The Rangers Riding Ranch project is an exciting new development for Education 4 Everyone as we continue to build on the memory of Christine Brockway, another of the Charity’s co-founders, who died from cancer in 2014.”
“Being able to support Rangers Riding Ranch with Hero In You is an honor, says Filippi who is currently studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, “We really spent a couple of year working on this song,” she explains, “it took a few tries to get the composition and lyrics right. It’s all about believing in yourself and persevering over the darkness, and finding the light within. And also, it’s about people talking to people who need it most; those who need to hear that they are doing a good job and they are doing well and have a chance at an amazing life. I am very pleased with how it turned out.” Filippi has scored for theatre and film and her music has been performed worldwide, including at the Welsh Millennium Centre in Cardiff, and at HighScore Festival in Italy.
Bradfield was selected to be a part of the “Hero in You” international charity project after submitting an audition video. She is a featured singer on the track along with Murphy. “Being a part of this project has been one of the best experiences I've ever had,” says Bradfield, “working with Kristyn and Marianna has opened my eyes to the dedication and complexities involved when creating music. They have taught me some real-world practicalities and I appreciate this experience beyond words.”
“We are very excited to also have Vivace join the project,” says Murphy, “they add such power and inspiration to the track.”
