Kristyn Murphy
“Kristyn Murphy breaks down borders, crossing genres seamlessly. There is no denying this singer’s incredible voice.”
Celtic Life International Magazine
Kristyn Murphy hails from a land of beautiful rocky coastlines, blueberries, lobster and pine trees. The singer of Celtic and Broadway music celebrates her Celtic heritage while combining her love for music, videography, and producing in a new project, a soon-to-be-released documentary. Murphy has graced the stages in opera houses and theaters both nationally and internationally. Kristyn captivates audiences by weaving together quality music with bits of history about Scotland and Ireland and interesting family stories. Her musical versatility is pleasing to varied musical palates, and her energetic personality keeps performances lively.
Kristyn, a Maine native who has been studying music and solo performing since a very young age, has been attracting international attention over the recent years with a voice that has been described as “stunning and beautiful”, “incredible”, and as “one to keep any eye on”. Coined by the U.K. press as a “U.S. Celtic singing star”, Murphy enjoyed success from her 2017 U.K. debut tour of England, Scotland and Wales with a show called Celtic Journey, which also featured Welsh music group The Meadows. Together Kristyn and the Meadows played several venues across the UK and made several appearances on live TV and radio, including BBC radio Wales, performing live for a listening audience of over 300,000.
In recent years, Kristyn has also been attracting attention as a producer and songwriter. In 2019 Murphy lead a state-wide collaborative music project for Volunteer Maine and produced a fundraiser album titled "Heartbeat of Home", which features musicians and poets from around the state of Maine including folk singer-songwriter David Mallett, Maine's governor Janet Mills, and Kristyn's frequent writing partner Marianna Filippi.
Murphy released worldwide an original song title "Hero in You" that she co-wrote with Marianna Filippi in 2020, after the single was successfully launched in the US at the end of 2019 and welcomed with success. The single was released in support of UK charity Rangers Riding Ranch. The track features Maine singer Lydia Bradfield, who was selected as a winner of a youth competition that Murphy and Filippi arranged in order to give local youth musical opportunity.
Celtic Life International Magazine writes: “American soprano Kristyn Murphy makes all the pieces of the musical puzzle fit with her debut recording A Time to Remember. The Vocalist breaks down borders, crossing genres seamlessly. There is no denying this singer’s incredible voice. Murphy is one to keep an eye on in the coming years.”
“I have always been interested in history,” she tells Celtic Life magazine, “and recently I have been focusing on using music as an avenue to preserve history and culture by performing a series of shows at venues that are important to communities, such as museums, heritage centers, churches, old theaters etc. I think sometimes music is seen only as a luxury entertainment, sometimes we forget that as a people what we create musically is representative of who we are and what we have been through, what we hope for, and desire”.
Audiences attending Kristyn’s Celtic concerts can expect an experience rich with story. The emerging artist performs a variety of Celtic, Folk, and Maritime music, with a small ensemble, that lights up the stage and brings audiences on a true musical journey that will forever be a time to remember.
The Tivy Side Advertiser writes: “Murphy’s golden voice has been attracting audiences around the world for several years now, captivates audiences with her musical storytelling and top notch vocals.”
In addition to her music work, Kristyn is an advocate for quality Afterschool programming. A mother of two, Kristyn is also a passionate advocate for normalizing breastfeeding and uses her Instagram as a platform to encourage and educate women about the power of breastfeeding.
